POSITION DESCRIPTION BOOKKEEPER (Part-time) Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ The Bookkeeper of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ has the primary duties listed below. Hours are flexible and allow for partially remote work for an average of 20 hours a week. These duties are subject to revision from time to time as determined by the Personnel Committee in consultation with the Senior Pastor. Requirements for this position include: Experience with bookkeeping, preferably in a not-for-profit setting; computer experience with Microsoft Office, particularly spreadsheet applications for budget work; attention to detail; excellent communication and organizational skills with a high level of confidentiality. Duties include: Financial Recording and Record Keeping Maintain accurate records of all contributions; prepare year-end statements for each contributor for tax and individual review purposes. Accurately record all church income. Prepare checks for monthly church expenses, budgeted mission support and verified expense reimbursements. Accurately record all church expenditures. Inform Finance & Stewardship Ministry of actual income and expenses in relation to annual church budget. Attend Finance & Stewardship meetings to answer questions related to church finances. Prepare monthly reports for Finance & Stewardship Ministry, pastor and members of Church Board. Prepare budget template in late September for budgeting. Prepare any required reports or forms for the auditor, IRS or other offices of accountability. Reconcile and balance church checking and savings accounts. Track weekly worship attendance on a spreadsheet. Personnel Related Duties Prepare bi-weekly payroll information for payroll company. Enter payroll and related tax records/payments into financial software. Prepare 1099's, if necessary, and distribute W-2 and 1099 forms at year end. Maintain human resource records, maintaining confidentiality of information. Annual Filing and Online Maintenance Maintain quarterly Envelope Giving program with provider. File annually the Indiana Business Entity Report, Merchant account certification of PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliance, workers compensation audit, The Pension Board Employer Compensation Change Form. Apply for NP-1 (Non-Profit) sales tax exemptions for suppliers when requested. Update the Vanco donation website seasonally with giving options. General Duties Acknowledge Memorial donations with notes to donors and letters to families of the deceased. Participate in staff planning meetings. Oversee designated office or business activities of the church. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $22 - $24 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
